Title

Women's War Work in Illinois in the Civil War

Subject

The war work women preformed in Illinois during the Civil War

Description

This page from a 1960 book on Illinois in the Civil War contains much of what we know about Myra Bradwell during the nation's bloodiest conflict.
Bradwell is listed with about a dozen other women who served their state on the home-front during the war by providing services like medical care.
This source shows that like many other suffragettes, Bradwell was an active part of the Union effort and continued to aid society during the war. It remains unclear what service she provided, but her home-care and academic skills would have made her a valuable resource. This source also shows how their work can sometimes be descaled to the office work that men once did before the war.
