Original cover of Chicago Legal News
Description
This is a scanned copy of the cover for the first volume of the Chicago Legal News, donated to the Library of Congress by Susan B. Anthony in 1903. Myra Bradwell started the newspaper in 1868 under her own name, an accomplishment only possible because of legislation she pushed through for women in Illinois to control their own earnings and business.
Bradwell served as the editor up till her death and the paper was widely respected throughout the country. As the cover states, the paper covered a variety of legal cases in Illinois, the United States, and even England.
Bradwell’s ownership of the Chicago Legal News paved the way for other women to control and manage their own business.
