Title

The Illinois Press Association Seventh Annual Convention at Rock Island

Subject

Press coverage of the Illinois Press Association Convention that Myra Bradwell attended.

Description

The Quincy Daily Whig’s coverage of the seventh convention of the Illinois Press Association and covers the different events that occurred. In one section, the paper mentions that Myra Bradwell read “a wonderful little poem on the woman question.”
This description shows the conflict that emerged between Bradwell’s employment activism and her political/social activism. Though she was a renowned journalist and editor, her contribution to the Illinois Press Association was merely reported as addressing the “woman question.”
Perhaps the lack of recognition and appreciation within this organization demonstrates how she joined the Illinois Women Press Association, to be among peers with similar obstacles to proper employment.
