Title

Women Lawyers

Subject

Answering the question of whether women should serve as lawyers

Description

In this section from the Chicago Legal News, the paper reprinted a statement from the American Law Review on the matter of women entering the profession of law. The legal news journal focuses on the development of women’s ability to access occupation and other rights normally reserved for men in the western states versus eastern states. The statement cites that western states allowing women to sit on juries or pursue occupations normally reserved for men are setting the example for the rest of the nation in terms of allowing experimentation for women’s rights.
The journal even cites Myra Bradwell’s ownership of the Chicago Legal News as an example of progression for women’s rights. The fact that Myra Bradwell printed this in her own newspaper shows how she used her own success, and failures, to advocate for the rights of women.
